The six members of the Westside Joint Water Committee are working together
to ensure a sustainable, affordable and high quality water resource
for future generations.

"The District of West Kelowna, Lakeview Irrigation District, District of Peachland, Regional District of Central Okanagan, Westbank First Nation and Westbank Irrigation District have come together to form the Westside Joint Water Committee (WJWC)." Representatives from each of the utilities agree that the collaboration
is an important step forward. This committee will allow opportunities
to work as a cohesive group to protect our valuable water resources
for future generations, while making sure our communities on the Westside
remains prosperous.

The
Westside Joint Water Committee is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, public education
partnership dedicated to informing Okanagan Westside residents about
our water needs and our water resources. The idea of forming a water
management leadership group came out of the Trepanier Landscape Unit
Water Management Plan (TLUWMP). It looked at the five main watersheds
serving the Westside and made recommendations in light of climate change
and population growth, for sustaining water resources over the next
two decades.

The
Westside Joint Water Committee’s goal is to champion improved
water management and the implementation of the recommendations of the
TLUWMP. The WJWC will strive to develop a consensus on water management
goals and promote measurable water conservation targets. The future
of the economy and environment on the Westside depends on successfully
addressing all issues pertaining to the management of our water resources.
